The North Carolina report demonstrates the importance of educating our citizenry in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. Educating our people in these areas will meet local, state, national and international needs. We live in a global community and it is important to stay competitive and to be of service.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent example of science, technology, engineering, and math is documented in the book, Leaders of the Information Age edited by David Weil. There are biographies of 250 individuals who have shared there expertise in these areas and they are responsible for the innovations that we enjoy today. There work has made the world a better place. Continuing to educate people in these areas will secure a bright future for us all.
I recently interviewed at a S.T.E.M school in Ralieigh. These schools are teaching 21st century skills that students need to be prepared for later in life. The United States is starting to fall behind in the areas of technology and science. It is best that schools start grooming students very early in the areas of technology and science so that we can stay ahead.
DeleteYou are right. It starts with educators to groom our students early on. Students usually find these topics harder than others and seek to avoid them. Early education in these topics will help to alleviate the fear of taking math, science and technology courses. Extracurricular activities may be planned around these topics to increase interest.
